To put it another way, you are seeking medical reassurance from people who may have said "would like fries with that" to you at a local fast food place. By asking people to diagnose your watch (since no doctor will ever diagnose you on reddit), you are de facto asking random strangers to give you a clean bill of health. Life is not virtual you do not get a reset button and nothing anyone tells you here is worth a damn if they don't tell you to take this to people qualified to address your health concerns. Stop asking people on reddit to make you feel better, take it seriously, and talk to your doctor. Put it back on or take it off - that is up to you but blaming it for scaring you and then running away takes a pretty major award for stupidity. Grow up and take personal responsibility for your own life. So you took off the damn watch because it scared you? Do you realize how irresponsible that is? Do you think your family would blame the watch for scaring you if something tragic occurs? It is supposed to give you a warning jackass and that it what it did - twice.

Why do moderators allow this stuff to posted? THIS IS NOT A QUESTION FOR ANYONE ON REDDIT EVER! You can pass every physical and think you are in perfect health and be the perfect weight and still have a cardiac irregularity. So, if your family has a history of heart disease or issues of that nature, then it doesn't hurt to follow up with a doctor at your next visit. But Garmin still says "ABNORMAL HEART RATE DETECTED". I've also gone through electrocardiograms, echocardiograms and perfusion tests and fitness tests, all clean and normal. Luckily I declined to pick up the prescription or I'd have passed out and possibly died. You want to talk about stressed? Turns out her machine needed to be recalibrated. She actually called in meds to a pharmacy and called me on my phone and was like, you need to get to the pharmacy and start taking meds and come back in the morning for a re-test. I went to the doctor once and my blood pressure was sky high. That being said even medical devices used for diagnostics aren't infallible. It's just seeing that your heart rate is high while you're idle. It's not detecting abnormal rhythms, or irregular contractions, or tachycardia, etc. They're not medical devices, they're not diagnostic devices, they're just useful for collecting data and taking some sort of action based on that data.

The heart rate monitor data is not intended to be used for medical purposes, nor is it intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or condition. IMPORTANT Garmin watches are not medical devices.

So you have to adjust your threshold higher, which alters its usefulness. If you're stressed or angry your heart rate can increase, this sets it off. I disabled it on mine because it would go off randomly. For specific instructions, refer to your Owner's Manual. This setting is found under the Heart Rate settings typically accessed from the Heart Rate widget on the watch. If you are inactive for 10 minutes or more, and your heart rate stays above your set threshold, you’ll get an alert on the watch. Newer Garmin watches can notify you when your heart rate unexpectedly goes above a specified threshold.
